Analysis of Badminton Shots

Use the cropped videos and the bullet points that you researched yesterday to help analyse your own performance:

The Overhead Clear:

  1. -          Start with a wide sideways stance (non racket shoulder towards net) put racket up with L shaped arm (non racket arm raised for balance)
  2. -          Racket head placed behind back and put weight on racket (rear) leg
  3. -          Racket arm straightens, forearm rotates to contact shuttle above shoulder
  4. -          Racket arm follows through, racket leg transfers from rear to front body position

The Smash:

  1. -          Raise your racket arm and non-racket arm
  2. -          Take the shuttle at the highest point possible
  3. -          Hit the shuttle with a full arm swing
  4. -          Follow through with your swing

The Drop Shot:

  1. ·         Bring elbow upwards and forwards and extend the arm when reaching for the shuttle
  2. ·         As you hit the shuttle turn shoulders and body back into court
  3. ·         Elbow should be low and racket should be pointing in an upwards direction
  4. ·         Preparation is the same as the overhead clear except you must slow down the racket head on impact

The Flick Serve:

  1. ·         Stand facing the net with right foot in front of your left
  2. ·         Hold the badminton racket with a relaxed basic grip
  3. ·         Hold the shuttlecock by the tip of the 'feathers'
  4. ·         When hitting the shuttle turn your body and bring the badminton racket forwards with your elbow held in close to your side
